Yom HaShoah, the Day of Remembrance for the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust, was commemorated today at the Jewish cemetery in Belgrade.

In the presence of community members, a memorial gathering dedicated to the victims was held.

The Baruh Brothers Choir, led by conductor Stefan Zekić, opened the commemoration with the performance of the composition "Eli, Eli".

The president of the Jewish Community of Belgrade, Aron Fuks, recited the prayer "El male rahamim" and emphasized that today we do not speak only of numbers, but of people, of families that have vanished, and how important it is to talk about them, to remember them all. Community member Jozef Baruhović, a Holocaust survivor, also briefly addressed the gathering. Aron Fuks also spoke during the memorial.

Wreaths were laid at the Memorial to the Victims of the Holocaust and at the Memorial to the Victims of the Kladovo Transport by Aron Fuks and Jozef Baruhović.

Other attendees, community members, as well as representatives from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Memorial Center Staro Sajmište, and other institutions, laid white roses.
