Kristallnacht (November 9 and 10, 1938) marks the beginning of the open persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany and Austria. During that night, under organized attacks, synagogues were destroyed, shops and homes were set on fire, and thousands of Jews were arrested and deported to concentration camps. This event marked the beginning of the systematic destruction of European Jews and became a symbol of suffering, hatred, and intolerance.
The Jewish community of Belgrade participates every year in commemorating this significant date, joining state memorial events and international initiatives that preserve the memory of Holocaust victims. With this gesture, the community expresses respect for the victims while also reminding of the importance of education, tolerance, and shared responsibility in the fight against antisemitism.
