We are deeply saddened by the news of the terrorist attack on Bondi Beach in Sydney, which occurred yesterday morning, during the beginning of the Hanukkah celebrations, resulting in the loss of 16 lives, along with several dozen injured.

In these moments of sorrow, we share the pain of the families of the victims and stand with the Jewish community in Australia and around the world. This act of senseless violence once again warns us of the presence of antisemitism in the world. Attacks directed against people because of their faith and identity represent an assault on fundamental human values and must be condemned and, we hope, stopped.

It is important that, as a community, we remain united and support one another. The strength of community and perseverance are our strongest responses to hatred.
